Director / DP Michael Paul Jones began his career in broadcast journalism, working for CNN and ABC where he won two Emmy awards and an APTRA award for his news journalism coverage of September 11. Jones later worked as an assistant on commercial campaigns and feature films for the late Tony Scott, who inspired and mentored him during his early years in the industry. Jones came up through the camera department with Tony and was trained under Paul Cameron and Dion Beebe, ASC.
Jones is down to earth and can relate to anyone, from skateboard greats (he’s shot content for the Berrics) to celebrities, to hunters (American Hunters documentary) and young people stricken with cancer (a labor of love for Send It Foundation). His films are beautiful and his work is a testament to the land and people's relationships to it. While his films typically feature some outdoor activity, the basis of the stories are always the appreciation of nature and familial relationships. Jones is a true outdoorsman, living in Montana, with his three children.
Directing and shooting commercials, Jones has worked with clients such as: Ford, Subaru, Chevy, Target, Fjallraven, NorthFace, Patagonia, MTN Dew, Yeti, and Oakley. He also toured with Tony Bennett for the Duets album and Beck for his Grammy Album of the Year, Morning Phase. He recently shot second unit for the upcoming “Untouchables”movie starring Bryan Cranston and Kevin Heart, also shooting 2nd Unit for Marc Webb on “Gifted” and lensing shots for Gary Ross on the new “Ocean’s Eight.”
